Since the release of Rapid Sitemaps v1.0, we've been inundated
with emails from you, the users. Most of the emails have been full
of praise, but some of you have encountered problems, and others
have made suggestions for improving the program.
Please keep your
comments and suggestions coming.
We've tried to fix all the bugs you mentioned, and we've
incorporated a number of the suggestions you made.
What's new in version 2?
- Internal management of the file list has been radically
improved.
Rapid Sitemaps now has a vastly improved internal management
system, which allows for much faster and more efficient browsing
and editing of your files, and faster spidering.
- Spidering the harddrive now multithreaded
In version 1.0, only spidering from the live site and
spidering from a mirror or development site had multithreading.
Multithreading allows the program to import more than one file
at a time, making the process many times faster. Spidering from
your local harddrive now also has multithreading, to make this
import method even faster!
- Introduced Virtual Folders for folders with more than a
specified number of files (default 500).
In the same way as Windows Explorer, if there are lots of
files in a single folder (thousands of files), populating the
file list can take some time, possibly minutes. In order to
prevent this problem, Rapid Sitemaps has introduced the concept
of Virtual Folders. These are just subfolders that have the same
path as their parent folder. If there are more than a specified
number of files in a folder (The number is specified in Options
General, default 500), Rapid Sitemaps will create virtual
folders to keep the files in.
Virtual Folders do not in any way affect the XML sitemap that
Rapid sitemaps will generate - it is simply a technique for
displaying your files in manageable chunks.

- Introduced wildcard and regular expression Filters for
spidering, with the ability to load and save.
There may be times when you want to exclude certain files
from the list when you spider your sites. Now you can, with
simple wildcard filters, or the more complex regular expression
filters. You can also save and load your filters, so that you
only need to create them once! read

- Introduced Yahoo! URL Lists (experimental)
In response to Google's Sitemaps system, Yahoo! now allow
you to submit a simple list of URLs on your site to them, as a
text file (optionally compressed). Very little is known about
Yahoo!'s new system, but we've built support for this system
into Rapid sitemaps anyway. You can now create simple lists of
all the URLs on your site, as well as the XML sitemap files for
Google.
- Saving sitemaps that exceed Googles limits (50000 files
or 10MB) now automatically create siteindex files.
In version 1.0, you were not allowed to exceed Google's
limits for a single file, because Rapid sitemaps was not
designed for such large sites. Version 2.0 can handle much
larger sites than it's predecessor, so we've added support for
multiple sitemap files, and a siteindex file to list them (in
Google's specified format). The process is done automatically
when you save your sitemap.
- Users can now select whether or not to compress their
files when they save
We've moved the option to compress your files from the
Options dialog to the Save File dialog, making it much easier
for you to choose on a file-by-file basis whether or not to
compress your sitemap.
- Upload now allows more than one file to be uploaded.
To
allow for multiple sitemap files, siteindex files, and urllists,
which can now also be created, we've added the ability to upload
more than one file with the FTP upload feature. Rapid
Sitemaps will still predict which files you want to upload, if
you have already saved them in the current session.
- Notify now gives information on how to upload Yahoo! URL
lists.
It was unfortunately impossible for us to add a 'Notify
Yahoo!' feature, because Yahoo! requires that you be logged in
to your Yahoo! account before you can submit your urllist, but
we've included instructions on where to go and what to do when
you get there. We'll try to add this feature in future versions,
if at all possible.
- Import Sitemap now supports xml sitemap and siteindex
files, and URL lists.
Now that multiple sitemap files, with siteindex files, and
urllists can be created with Rapid Sitemaps, we've added support
for these file types in the 'Import Sitemap' feature. If you've
saved your files in multiple sitemap file, simply import the
siteindex file, and all the files in all the sitemap files will
be imported. Similarly, you can now import files from a simple
URL list.
