If there is a large number of files in a single
folder (hundreds or thousands), populating the file list
can take some time. The wait is only a few seconds for a
couple of hundred files, but for thousands of files, you
can wait for a minute or more. To alleviate this
problem, Rapid Sitemaps introduces the concept of
Virtual folders. These are just subfolders that have the
same path as their parent folder. If there are more than
a specified number of files in a folder (The number is
specified in Options General, default 500), Rapid
Sitemaps will create virtual folders to keep the files
in.
Virtual folders are identified by this icon
, and are
named _vf_aaa_bbb where aaa is the first
three letters of the first file in the folder, and
bbb is the first three letters of the last file in
the folder.
You may not add new folders to Virtual Folders, and
you may not delete Virtual Folders, but you can edit all
files in a Virtual Folder. Adding or deleting files from
Virtual Folders will actually add or delete them from
the parent folder, and all virtual folders will be
re-allocated to maintain alphabetic order.
